The short version: tax setup is a few guided questions inside payout setup, answered once. Airwallex, our payment partner, collects the details and manages everything from there: the right form for your situation, the verification, the filings, and the documents you’re issued. Most Advisors spend a few minutes on it and don’t think about it again.
This page is general information, not tax advice. Your obligations depend on your business structure and where you’re registered, so please consult your own tax professional.
For every Advisor
- You operate as an independent business. Cando doesn’t withhold income tax from your commissions; reporting and remitting tax on your earnings is yours to manage
- Airwallex collects your tax details once, during payout setup, in a guided form inside your console that shows only the questions that apply to you. From there the process runs itself
US Advisors
- You complete a Form W-9 in the console, through Airwallex’s embedded form. Your TIN is verified automatically; verification can take a short while, and your console shows the status
- When your payments reach the federal reporting threshold (USD $2,000 for 2026), Airwallex files a Form 1099-NEC with the IRS. This includes combined federal and state filing where your state participates. Some states require direct filing, so check yours
- Your 1099 is delivered electronically through the console, with postal delivery available if you prefer
Advisors outside the US
- You complete a Form W-8BEN (individuals and sole traders) or W-8BEN-E (companies and trusts) through Airwallex’s embedded form. It adjusts to your situation automatically
- W-8 forms expire at the end of the third calendar year after signing. You’re reminded 90 and 30 days before expiry. If a form lapses, payouts pause until you submit a new one, which takes minutes, and your earnings keep accruing the whole time
- There’s nothing country-specific for you to set up beyond this: Airwallex’s verification collects your local business details as part of payout setup, and taxes in your own country stay yours to manage, as everywhere
Common questions
Why is my payout held for tax? Your form is missing, failed verification, or has expired. Settings → Payouts shows which one, and fixing it releases your balance at the next run. Earnings are never lost while held.
How do I replace my form? Settings → Payouts → redirect to Airwallex. The new form takes effect once verified.
Where do I find my 1099 or RCTI? Settings → Payouts for tax forms and 1099s. Each RCTI is attached to its payout run on the Payouts page.
